"Playful Discoveries in Acrylics"
10AM to 2PM
APRIL 2nd 4PM to 6PM
at BIG ARTS Sanibel Island
2 hour "Wine and Paint Mixer"
4PM to 6PM
The workshops are designed for islanders and visitors alike who are ready to bring joyful art and sunshine into their lives. Sissi Janku will brighten your hearts and homes with a semi-abstract look at Florida’s birds this season.
Be brave and join her on a magical trip into the amazing world of abstraction. Bring your canvas and paints to discover how a simple rooster or spoonbill takes on all the colors of the kaleidoscope and turns them into a cubistic painting. Journey into a mix of abstraction and realism and a harmonious play of bright colors.
“The seed holds a very great secret – it never gets old. It is the eternal yes to life.”
Painting classes include step-by-step instructions with tips for: – abstract art for beginners – complimentary colors – color-mixing – application of paints in different styles and techniques.
Student Supply list:
Acrylic Paint
If you have painted with acrylics before, bring your acrylic paints.
For beginners I recommend “craftsmart” from Michaels. They are budget friendly and come in a 16-color value set. Some “craft acrylics” are not as light-fast as professional artist paints. You can use a non-yellowing varnish like “mod podge” or “polyacrylic” to make your artwork lightfast after it is thoroughly dry.
Brushes
A mixture of sizes, at least three or four brushes ranging from 3/16 to 1” in width.
Instructor will bring extra for everyone.
1 black sharpie
1 pink eraser
Canvases
2 canvases 12"x16”
1-day workshop fee: $62 / $50 annual donors
Supply fee: $15 per student payable to instructor for all supplies provided
Join us for this 2-hour mixer and create your very own “Sweet Island Home” under Sissi’s instruction. Journey into a mix of realism, a hint of childlike joy, and a harmonious play of bright colors with a sneaky dash of warmth and heartfelt simplicity.
Students should bring an apron or painting smock and wear comfortable clothes. Wine is provided by BIG ARTS.
